About Carderock

Right Sized

Carderock is committed to making money over being right. Obvious though this may sound, in a business where intellectual demands can be substantial, we feel it is important to avoid the usual temptations through taking large risks in sharply defined market calls—whether for a single security or for the general market. Instead, we prefer reaching goals through a series of smaller decisions over time.

Carderock Capital Management is an independent registered investment management firm serving individuals and families in the Washington D.C. region since 1986. Our firm is purposely structured with a small core group of experienced portfolio professionals to help their clients meet their objectives.

Our founding partners created the firm in response to consolidations they saw accelerating across the industry in the 1980s, with many larger firms treating people like numbers. Too often, these companies valued their own growth over their clients’ success. Carderock was established to offer an alternative and provide personalized investment management services to clients.

Carderock was established to offer an alternative and provide personalized investment management services to clients.

Carderock offers Active Investment Management. Active management makes sense because the future is less often what we hope will happen and more often what we don’t. Thereby, Carderock manages portfolios by controlling the overall level of risk through asset allocation and optimizing the quality of the underlying securities.

Carderock follows a Consulting Service Model rather than a package, production or a promotional model. Investments are picked from proven, readily-marketable securities based on the client’s needs rather than for their novelty or a specific mandate.

Carderock sticks with the Basics. We use a traditional mix of stocks, bonds and cash that is primarily driven by client’s needs for cash flow and we refine the mix as market conditions dictate.

Carderock helps clients Understand, Design and Review an investment program to meet their needs with the least amount of risk practical. The program is reviewed with clients annually along with their portfolio results and to reaffirm the objectives and goals
